Musica Nova Helsinki

Helsinki, Finland

The "Musica Nova Helsinki" festival will be celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2011 making it the oldest festival for contemporary music in Finland. With its new artistic director Johan Tallgren and featuring works by key composers the festival draws references to current social developments. The events will be held at concert halls through to such venues as art galleries around the city. German contemporary music will form the focus in February 2011. In addition to planned Finnish debut performances of works by Wolfgang Rihm, Mark Andre and Helmut Lachenmann, composition commissions have, for instance, also been issued to such composers as Oliver Schneller and David Brynjar Franzon. The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation is supporting two concerts of the musikFabrik featuring works by Enno Poppe, Oliver Schneller, Sven-Ingo Koch and Arnulf Herrmann.
