Music Innovation – UNM 2012

Ung Nordisk Musik, Iceland

Ung Nordisk Musik (UNM) is a music festival of young composers in the Nordic countries of Iceland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland. The festival is held yearly, each year changing its focus and theme. This year Iceland will host the festival on the theme of Music Innovation, focusing on instruments and the usage of new instruments in new compositions. The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation supports the musicians featured in the concerts. The festival is first and foremost a celebration of new Nordic music, and therefore the performances of the new music by young composers in the form of concerts is the most prominent feature of the festival. Each year, the festival premiers 35 new compositions by young Nordic composers. The pieces will be performed at 5 concerts by professional musicians, divided by type and character.
