Four Composition Commissions

Ensemble S201, Essen, Germany

The Essen-based ensemble S201 is planning a series of six concerts in the 2021 season. To begin, S201 will present works by composers in which algorithms and number games not only serve as tools for generating music but are the very subject or content. Composer Georgia Rogers will talk about her fascination with numbers in her new composition textural and spatial aspects using PowerPoint and with questions from the floor. In the second project, composer Yukiko Watanabe will explore a sense of time, breaking down the walls between everyday life and the concert experience. Huihui Cheng toys with the visibility and invisibility of sound sources: Latex fabrics and movements create a mysterious and playful layer here. The finale of the concert series is a premiere by Hanna Eimermacher, which brings together vocal art, performance and instrumental New Music. The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation is supporting the composition commissions issued to Georgia Rodgers, Yukiko Watanabe, Hanna Eimermacher and Huihui Cheng.
