Ostrava Days 2017: New Music Institute and Festival

Ostrava Center for New Music, Ostrava, Czech Republic

The Ostrava Days Biennale is a three-week event with a focus on compositions for orchestra culminating in a festival lasting nine days. During the festival and preceding academy over 90 works will be performed – a third of which are premieres. The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation is supporting the festival. The Ostrava Days wish to create an environment where collaboration on pieces of work, learning and teaching as well as performances stands closely side by side. Here organizers attempt to create ideal working conditions. During the academy 35 young composers, artists and musicologists will work daily on their works alongside teachers and performers. This year the festival offers 300 participating artists, 50 teaching units, 22 events and 90 works – in addition to those of teachers and up-and-coming composers it also features classics from the 2nd half of the 20th century.
