Biography

Brigitta Muntendorf studied composition in Bremen with Younghi Paagh-Paan and in Cologne with Krzysztof Meyer, Rebecca Saunders and Johannes Schöllhorn. Her studies were followed by a six month scholarship at the Cité Internationale des Arts Paris.
She received commissions for various festivals in Germany such as Acht Brücken Festival Cologne, Wittener Tage für Neue Kammermusik or ensemble:europa (WDR) and was  awarded for several prizes (Bernd Alois Zimmermann Prize, Carl von Ossietzky Prize, First Prize of the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Cologne, Impuls Composition Competition 2013). Next to her close relationship to Ensemble Garage she worked with different ensembles together (Ensemble Mosaik, oh-Ton ensemble, Asko/Schönberg ensemble, CALEFAX, musikFabrik or Ensemble Modern).
In the last few years Brigitta Muntendorf has been focusing on mixed media and music theatre works and premiered her first music theatre scene “Wer zum Teufel ist Gerty” in collaboration with the art director Thierry Bruehl in Austria, Salzburg in 2011. In 2013 Thierry Bruehl and Brigitta Muntendorf premiered the new music theatre work Endlich Opfer at the same festival in Salzburg. In 2009 she founded the contemporary music Ensemble Garage in Cologne as a platform for musicians, composers and other artists to explore and display new ideas, concepts, and works.
Brigitta Muntendorf has a scholarship for the International Ensemble Modern Academy and lives and works as a freelance composer and art director of the Ensemble Garage in Cologne.
