Kunstfest Weimar

Composition commission issued to Georg Nussbaumer

Kunstfest Weimar, Germany

2013 will see celebrations marking Richard Wagner’s 200th birthday – also in Weimar, where his "Lohengrin" by Franz Liszt was performed for the first time. To mark the occasion composer Georg Nussbaumer will, for one week, transform Schießhaus Weimar and its surrounding park grounds into a Lohengrin area with special installations and activities. Changing quartet formations will play the piano excerpt of Wagner’s opera among others. The project aims not only to interpret Wagner but also pick up on and further develop both abstract and concrete aspects of the Lohengrin cosmos. To accompany this, kinetic, interactive sound installations will be set up in a classical Weimar building and park, the so-called “Schießhaus”, and the international musicians of “Kaleidoskop” Ensemble Berlin will play a both musical and performance role. The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation is supporting the composition commission to Georg Nussbaumer.
