Composition commission issued to Gérard Pesson and Tristan Murail

Quatuor Diotima, Paris, France

With the support of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation, two major French composers, Gérard Pesson and Tristan Murail, are commissioned to write new string quartets for Quatuor Diotima for performance in 2013 and 2014 at music festivals and concerts series in Munich, Huddersfield, Orléans, Aldeburgh and Royaumont. The Quatour Diotima’s objectives are to enable composers to explore and experiment with the rich and established genre of the string quartet, to help ensure the continuance and expansion of the quartet literature in the 21st century, to bring contemporary works to as wide an audience as possible through repeat performances and radio broadcasts, and to perform them in a variety of programme contexts including juxtapositions with older repertoire.
