Composition commission issued to Luís Antunes Pena

Sond'Ar-te Electric Ensemble, S. Domingos de Rana, Portugal

The Sond’Ar-te Electric Ensemble’s project is to realize a commission of a new music work for flute, clarinet, piano, violin, violoncello and electronics to Luís Antunes Pena, Portuguese young composer currently residing in Germany (Cologne). The Ernst von Siemens supports the commission of this work entitled “Konvolut". "Konvolut" is a piece based on a collection of audio samples from different origins, which construct the main material of the composition. The samples are selected audio and video objets trouvés - recordings of an urban environment or YouTube videos. The “most seen”, "most clicked" or "most viewed" is a new quality of global order that transforms quantity in an almost automatic quality. "This phenomena, widely spread in the Internet, causes me some fascination", says Luís Antunes Pena. "I intend to use the most seen YouTube samples as casual objects that I found in the web and somehow mirror a part of our time and society."
