Eunoia

Composition commissions issued to Mike Svoboda, Isabel Mundry, Balz Trümpy, Erik Oña and Sidney Corbett

Ensemble Eunoia, Basel, Switzerland

With its line-up featuring soprano, trombone, cello, percussion and piano Ensemble Eunoia covers all instrument groups. It is an ensemble with five individual tonal colors – something that is also reflected in its name: EUnOIA is the shortest word featuring all five vowels and is composed of the Greek EU (=being or doing good) and NOUS (=reason, mind). Researching tonal color blends is a central and key focus for Ensemble Eunoia.
With the support of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation Ensemble Eunoia will be issuing 5 composition commissions to 5 different composers. Each of these has the task of exploring one of the 5 vowels: A – E – I – O – U. Each of the debut performances will form the main work of that particular concert. All other pieces performed on that evening will relate to the composition commission.

October 2013 – May 2014
