Händel Reflektionen

Internationale Händel-Festspiele Göttingen, Germany

For many years now the concerts of the Göttingen Symphony Orchestra have been a fixture at the city’s international Händel festival Internationale Händel-Festspiele Göttingen. To be able to present the body of musicians with all its strengths, to enhance the repertoire of both ensemble and festival and to still maintain direct links to Georg Friedrich Händel, from 2013 to 2015 contemporary composers are to be commissioned to write works that explore Händel – the man and his music – in a variety of ways. What is always essential here is the reference to the festival motto – which in 2013 is "Händel & der Orient" (Händel and the Orient). This time it has been possible to enlist Mahmoud Turkmani as a bridge builder between classical western and traditional Arab music. In 2014 the personal ties between the Kingdom of Hannover and Great Britain will form a focus in planning with a commission to be issued to the British composer Kenneth Hesketh. In 2015 the female figures in Händel’s works will form the focal point of the festival. With the support of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation it has been possible here to enlist the female composer Isabel Mundry as an artist who always focuses intensively on historic models.
