Greatest Hits – Festival für Neue Musik

Kampnagel Internationale Kulturfabrik, Hamburg, Germany

As part of the Greatest Hits festival 19 events will be held over four days at the Kampnagel festival center. The musical and supporting program will focus on three areas: music of the Composer in Residence Georg Friedrich Haas, electronic music as well as restaging as a key aspect of the history of music reception.
In order to cover the full spectrum of contemporary music, Haas’ micro-tonality is countered by a focus on electronic music. This provides an ideal point of departure for juxtaposing different types of contemporary music. Hamburg’s successfully established series with electronic music “ePhil” combines avant garde and popular culture with the presentation of artists  at the interface of both areas – with names like Vladislav Delay, Alva Noto (aka Carsten Nikolai) and Mika Vainio. The special edition of the festival forms a link to the early days of electronic music. Three concerts are devoted to instruments or a pioneer in the field: Theremin, Ondes Martenot and Morton Subotnik. With interactive involvement the audience will also be able to enjoy classics of electronic music by Stockhausen, Varèse and others by means of “wave field synthesis” in hitherto unparalleled quality.
