Internationale Weingartner Tage für Neue Musik 2013

Internationale Weingartner Tage für Neue Musik, Weingarten, Germany

This three-day composer portrait now enjoys great acclaim throughout Germany.
Every year a composer is invited to Weingarten for three days where their work is presented in numerous and varied events – in 2013 the composer selected is Mark Andre. It is particularly the composers attending in person plus close collaboration with festival management that make this event so appealing to the audience – as they are given the opportunity to discuss with the composers about their musical works performed in Weingarten as well as their composition methods and approach to music. The work with schoolchildren and students during the spoken word concert mainly focalizing interpretation aspects is particularly popular with the audience. As a result, this form of composer portrait – concentrating on the creative work of a composer – constitutes a key alternative to other musical events with contemporary music. On the Friday evening the ensemble modern will open the three-day festival in the Festival Hall of the Pädagogische Hochschule Weingarten. Alongside works like iv 2 for violoncello and iv 3 for clarinet, the chamber music piece ... als ... I for bass clarinet, violoncello and piano will be performed. The Saturday forms a traditional highpoint at the Weingarten Festival. The introductory artist’s talk with Mark Andre aims to whet visitors’ appetite for the great evening concert to follow. The SWR Vokalensemble Stuttgart and the SWR Experimentalstudio will perform the recent ensemble work hij 2for 24 voices and electronic music. Weingarten Basilica provides an ideal venue for this. The spoken word concert on Saturday – where Mark Andre will work on selected pieces with performers and answer questions from the audience – will provide a personal and unique insight into the composer. Another highpoint at the music festival during Sunday’s concert will be the two works üg and Zwischenraum, to be performed by the ensemble modern and the SWR Experimentalstudio at Weingarten’s Cultural and Congress Center.
