Zeitkunst Festival 2013

Berlin, Germany

Zeitkunst is an international, contemporary art initiative allowing New Music and contemporary literature to enter into a dialog. Zeitkunst presents itself as a multi-layered, dovetailed, performative and multi-lingual movement. Composers, writers, musicians, visual artists, dancers, directors and dramaturgs all worked closely together here on joint programs and will be presenting the results of the Zeitkunst movement in cross-border performances.
The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation will be supporting the Festival in 2013. The festival program this year comprises four concert programs involving 12 international musicians and 24 authors:
The first program “Metamorphoses” demonstrates the Zeitkunst principle: 12 authors from Berlin and 12 authors from Rio de Janeiro make it possible for Lutoslawski’s "Grave" to interact with a selection of Ovid’s Metamorphoses.
The second program "Lullabies for the Sleepless", which debuted in 2012, presents a very contrasting selection of Cage’s works and stages itself in conjunction/separation with literature/music/fine art (live painting).
The third program "Signs, Games and Messages – A Tribute to György Kurtag" is devoted to the works of the composer György Kurtag who is influential in the Zeitkunst sphere. In joint collaboration Brazilian poet Luca Argel, German poet Johanna Melzow and Israeli poet Maya Kupermann will develop a program that will illuminate works by this Hungarian composer from his cycle "Signs, Games and Messages" from their relevant poetic position.
In the fourth program "Zum Beginn der Zeit" two commissioned works will be performed for the first time:  the young Brazilian composer Sergio Rodrigo will enter into a dialog with Brazilian author Ricardo Domeneck and German writer Swantje Lichtenstein.
