International Young Composers Academy

Centre for New Music Initiatives, Moscow, Russia

The annual International Young Composers Academy in Tchaikovsky-city (Perm region) is a unique project in Russia's contemporary music culture scene – the first and only large-scale international composers workshop in the country. The Tchaikovsky city is great place for the Academy. Privacy and rest, remoteness from noise and big cities, wonderful landscapes dispose to fruitful creative concentration. The unique city, called in honor of the famous composer, apparently, is created to be a cradle of musical creativity. The academy is a creative laboratory for young composers and musicians from around the world, including different Russian regions. Out of the applications a professional jury will select 14 students and six stagers of any nationality up to 35 years. The students will have the possibility to work during 13 days on a new composition under the patronage of well-known visiting professors (composers) who hold individual sessions and group lectures. The compositions are rehearsed and premiered by Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble (MCME) in the series of final concerts (in the last days of the Academy) in the Tchaikovsky, in Perm and in Moscow.

Besides individual lessons, each professor gives two open three-hour-long lectures, and each student and stager has a presentation of own creativity. At the same time the MCME musicians carry out individual and ensemble master-classes for young Russian musicians-students to teach them performing contemporary music and to expand their scale of performing possibilities.
During the Academy, which is supported by the EvS Music Foundation, there will be four concerts which should show the results of the teaching and working units.
