Young Ensembles: Seminars and Concerts on Contemporary Music

Promitheas, Athen, Greece

Once again this year an International Ensemble Modern Academy (IEMA) was held as part of the Paxos Festival on Corfu with the support of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation. Since 2004, this festival has collaborated with IEMA, offering master classes for outstanding Greek students and aspiring young musicians enabling them to pursue high-quality studies in the performance practice of 20th and 21st century music. At the same time, festival organizers also wish to see New Music performed more frequently in Greece. The full-day study sessions and public rehearsals take place on the island of Paxos. Works that have been rehearsed and performed during the festival are repeated again during the following winter as part of a series of concerts at the Megaron Concert Hall in Athens.
This extended collaboration between the festival and the International Ensemble Modern Academy has also led to the formation of an ensemble for contemporary music in Greece: the Ergon Ensemble.
