CrossingLines: The New Generation of Spanish Composers

NEU ARTS, Barcelona, Spain

Set up at Barcelona’s School of Music of Catalonia (ESMuC), CrossingLines is one of Spain’s most prominent ensembles devoted to contemporary music and one of the major players on this new scene now boasting composers and performers of international acclaim. CrossingLines and the New Generation of Spanish Composers is a comprehensive project that reflects the richness of a new contemporary music scene emerging after the aesthetic stagnation of post-war Spain and within the context of a new European landscape. The project demonstrates how CrossingLines works by unifying the elements that make up this new Spanish musical reality. The project consists of five main phases: the commissioning of two works for the composers Marc Garcia Vitoria and Germán Alonso to be developed in permanent contact with the ensemble CrossingLines; the selection of an electronic work through a specific call for Spanish composers; a working session in the Ateneu Barcelonès Concert Hall; the concert at the same venue and, last but not least, lectures and seminars focusing on the pieces to be performed.
