Ensemble Modern hosted at Time of Music 2015

Time of Music, Viitasaari, Finland

Since 1982 Time of Music has been the only annual contemporary music festival to be held in Finland. 2015 will see the festival focus primarily on the links between art, politics and history – this is not least due to the fact that in Finland it is election year and also Jean Sibelius’ 150th birthday.
Visiting Finland the last time in 1986, the Ensemble Modern will not only hold concerts featuring pieces from its core repertoire (including works by Hans Zender, Mark Andre and Brian Ferneyhough) but will also work with students on the instruments and initiate them into the performance of contemporary music. The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation is supporting the ensemble’s stay during the festival. Israel’s Ensemble Nikel will also hold a composition workshop and Quatuor Diotima will hold a reading concert for aspiring composers.
Furthermore, Sir Harrison Birtwistle will also be present and will be available for discussions and offer teaching units.
