Eötvös 70

ensemble risonanze erranti, Nuremberg, Germany

To celebrate Peter Eötvös’ 70th birthday in 2014 ensemble risonanze erranti plans to showcase the composer’s work in portrait concerts in Munich, Nuremberg and Karlsruhe. The concerts will be supported by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation. To do justice to Eötvös’ versatility and great creative imagination the ensemble wishes to make Windsequenzen the focal piece in the program alongside a performance of the double concert Shadows for flute and clarinet (in the version for ensemble). In addition, the trio Psy and the momentous solo piece Psalm 151 will also be performed. This will be played by Laszlo Hudacsek who rehearsed the work with Peter Eötvös as his long-term collaborator. Peter Tilling, head of ensemble risonanze erranti, also concluded his conducting studies under Peter Eötvös at Karlsruhe Music Academy and was his student and assistant for a number of years. Also to be performed as part of the portrait concerts will be Karlheinz Stockhausen’s Kontrapunkte that displays key musical and biographical references to Eötvös. Furthermore, ensemble risonanze erranti has issued a composition commission to the young Israeli composer Eres Holz. Holz lives in Berlin and studied under Hanspeter Kyburz. His music combines intense technical explorations with algorithmic composition and a great understanding of electronic sound. Transposing this onto classical instruments and classical compositional methods is a matter of great importance to Eres Holz and indeed this is what prompted ensemble risonanze erranti to issue the commission for a new work for ensemble.
