Labyrinths – Wandering Concert at Schlossmediale Werdenberg

Schlossmediale Werdenberg, Buchs, Switzerland

The motto for the Schlossmediale Werdenberg festival in 2014 is “Das ewig Weibliche” or “The Eternally Feminine”. Artists focusing on purportedly female traits, strong women at the side of strong men, heroines in mythology – all this will feature at Schlossmediale. And the composer in focus this season at Schlossmediale is Lucia Ronchetti. Every year one commissioned work is issued to a composer and one to a fine artist; this year’s composition commission supported by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation and issued to Lucia Ronchetti comes jointly from Collegium Novum and Schlossmediale. In her work Ronchetti has often directed her attention to women in mythology; this time the focus is on Ariadne whose red thread led Theseus out of the labyrinth at Knossos. Entitled “Forward and downward, turning neither to the left nor to the right” – (action concert piece for ensemble after Plutarch and Kàroly Kerényi (2014)) the work is conceived as a piece of instrumental theater. Indeed, on the Saturday before Pentecost in 2014 Collegium Novum and Schlossmediale Werdenberg will lead the audience around the 800 year old castle that hosts this festival.
