MISSA Moritz Eggert

Europäische Wochen Passau, Germany

“One-off performances should not remain one-offs” is a firm conviction held by festival management at Europäische Wochen Passau, thereby coinciding with the belief of the Board of Trustees at the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation that worthy pieces of work should not fall into oblivion after their premieres but should be restaged. For this reason, with the support of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation, the festival will be restaging Moritz Eggert’s work MISSA that was premiered in 2008. In its “Credo” series that presents spiritual music at ecclesiastical venues the performance of Moritz Eggert’s mass not only sends out a signal about the lively nature of contemporary composition, it also helps a work likely to find it hard out on the “open” music market to now be restaged. The decision to opt for this work Missa was also triggered by a wish to present to the festival audience an established but young composer from Bavaria in the form of Moritz Eggert – since, ultimately, the festival not only serves to focus on “foreign” cultures but also explicitly on its own local one. The performance will be staged at the church Augustiner Stiftskirche in Reichersberg in Upper Austria: co-performing MISSA as soloists will be the original premiere ensemble “SingerPur”; singing will come care of the Linz cathedral choir Linzer Domchor. The orchestra invited to play here is Brünn Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Caspar Richter.
