15. Weimarer Frühjahrstage 2014

via nova – zeitgenössische Musik in Thüringen e.V., Weimar, Germany

The Weimarer Frühjahrstage festival constitutes a forum for networking and exchange for composers and performers – one always aimed at doing this a supra-regional level. Alongside numerous concerts and debut and repeat performances the festival supported by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation will also be enhanced with musical appreciation projects, competitions, exhibitions, lectures and workshops. In 2014 a total of five composers have been commissioned with new works for four very different ensembles. Ensemble neoN from Norway will open the concert week premiering works by Alexanders Strauch, Helmut Zapf and Peter Helmut Lang. To mark the 450th birthday of William Shakespeare all works are to focus on this great writer. As part of the festival Switzerland’s young Fathom String Trio will collaborate with the Teichmann Brothers. Hailing from the electro and techno scenes these two artists will interact live with the string players. Thomas Nathan Krüger will write a composition for this concert. In 2014 both these ensembles will also act as so-called mentor ensembles for the regional boys’ ensemble Landesjungendensemble Neue Musik Thüringen. Together with the professional musicians these young people will work on a new work by Johannes K. Hildebrandt.
