2014 Bludenz Festival for Contemporary Music

Bludenz, Austria

In 2014 and 2015 Italian composer Clara Iannotta will take on artistic direction of the Bludenz Festival for Contemporary Music (Bludenzer Tage zeitgemäßer Musik). Under Iannotta the festival is to be further developed and will increasingly bring together established and young composers and renowned and less experienced musicians.
In 2014 the French ensemble Quatuor Diotima will open the festival with two premieres: pieces by Italy’s Stefano Gervasoni and Russia’s Dmitry Kourliandsky. Furthermore, Clara Iannotta’s most recent work will also feature on the opening program. Constituting the thematic center of the first concert is the musical form of the ‘string quartet’ and its history.
The second day of the festival will feature two concerts reflecting strong contrasts: the first will be performed by Germany’s Ensemble Mosaik under the baton of Enno Poppe – alongside repertoire pieces, this concert also offers two premieres: pieces by Ireland’s Ann Cleare as well as America’s Rama Gottfried. The second concert of the evening will illuminate the interfaces between theater and concert: Berlin ensemble Die Ordnung der Dinge will turn the concert into a scenic event – amongst others with music by the British-Dutch composer Chris Swithinbank. The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation will be supporting the concerts by Quatuor Diotima and Ensemble Mosaik.
