Donaueschinger Musiktage 2014

Donaueschingen, Deutschland

For many years now the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation has acknowledged the Donaueschinger Musiktage festival’s special ability of rising to ever new challenges as a hub and focal pivot of contemporary music in Europe.

After 2009 when the traditional orchestra was questioned in aesthetic terms, 2010 which saw a focus on that “regal” discipline of chamber music, the string quartet, and 2011 when the emphasis was placed on vocal music, in 2012 the Donaueschinger Musiktage festival was focused on a new genre currently emerging – one based on our electrified and digitalized world. In 2013 the focus lay on grand musical form. The next edition of the Donaueschinger Musiktage will be held in October 2014. This year, too, will see numerous compositions commissioned by the Südwestrundfunk radio corporation. The central theme here will be “dual talents”. So the focus of the festival in 2014 will lie on composers who, alongside their musical vocation, also pursue another artistic calling within such fields as literature or the fine arts. One component of the festival will therefore be a major exhibition of painting, graphic arts and visual poetry. Now more than ever, the Donaueschinger Musiktage in 2014 will be a festival of the senses with concerts, readings, exhibitions, film screenings, performances and installations.
