Multimedia Documentation of a Premiere by Wolfgang Rihm

Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, Vienna, Austria

In 2014 the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra (GMJO) is to have – what is for a “Project Youth Orchestra” – the unique opportunity to issue a composition commission to Wolfgang Rihm. Detailed media documentation is to make it possible to illuminate and pass on this exploration of the new work. The GMJO has developed a recording concept with media specialists that will make possible rehearsals and entire recordings in HD, the highest technical standard, along with musicological and educative objectives. This multimedia focus of the project is to be supported by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation. 
By making elaborately produced video clips available on YouTube as well as social media platforms (Facebook etc.) the GMJO aims to extend the impact beyond the borders of the orchestra and its immediate audience.
