Composition Commission issued to Stefan Beyer

vertixe sonora ensemble, Vigo, Pontevedra, Spain

It was at the Matrix Academy of the 2013 SWR Experimental Studio that members of the vertixe sonora ensemble first encountered the work of German composer Stefan Beyer and they were deeply impressed. The idea to issue a composition commission for the ensemble to Beyer was then born. Beyer accepted and the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation is now supporting the commission.
Stefan Beyer’s music is marked by an extremely fine, decisive and magical sonority. His works are striking and block-like in form with individual sections that are monolithic. The sounds stand for themselves and you sense how your ears adjust to them.
In the case of the Galician-Portuguese vertixe sonora ensemble Beyer will be composing for a sextet with very special line-up: baritone saxophone, accordion, percussion, piano, electric guitar and double bass.
