¡Festejemos a Helmut Lachenmann!

Goethe-Institute Madrid, Spanien

In November 2015 the great composer Helmut Lachenmann will be 80 years old. The ensemble musikFabrik, Madrid’s Centro Nacional de Difusión Musical (CNDM) and the Goethe Institute Madrid are taking this opportunity to initiate a joint project. Key Lachenmann compositions will be linked here with premieres of one German and one Spanish composition commission by Isabel Mundry and Ramón Lazkano to create a contrasting concert program. The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation will be supporting the composition commissions.
The commission was awarded to Isabel Mundry at the express wish of Helmut Lachenmann himself. Ramón Lazkano as the Spanish counterpart is the ideal candidate requested by the CNDM and the musikFabrik ensemble.
A joint project with one of Spain’s most important music institutions as well as one of the most important German instrumental ensembles therefore appears as a suitable format to celebrate Lachenmann’s birthday in Spain in a fitting way. Lachenmann’s music is not only a regular feature of concert programs in Spain but the composer himself has numerous Spanish students. In this way he actively contributes to the musical exchange between Germany and Spain – the project also takes this commitment into account.
