rainy days 2014 – Festival for New Music

Every year the Luxembourg Philharmonic holds the rainy days festival putting contemporary music very much in the limelight. With its focal themes, high quality, varied event formats and venues, extensive educational program and a freshly balanced mix of both accessible and more challenging events every year the festival accentuates new focal content. Exposure for new productions plays a major role here. This is particularly the case at the tenth edition of the festival to be held at the Philharmonic: in 2014 the interplay of light and music is center stage. On this occasion on the one hand canon works by Skrjabin, Schönberg and Cerha as well as Yves Klein will be performed. On the other hand, new productions will this year count among the largest in the history of the festival so far. These include an extraordinary double project featuring music, light and movement within the space with the soloist ensemble Kaleidoskop where in each case both a composer and a light artist are commissioned with the development of a work for string orchestra and light (Michael Reudenbach & Joachim Fleischer as well as Sebastian Claren & Karl Kliem), the development of a performance version of the new percussion ensemble work by Hugues Dufourt with light and stage design as well as a commissioned work for symphony orchestra and light by Manos Tsangaris. The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation is funding the composition commissions issued to Tsangaris, Reudenbach and Claren.
