Te craindre en ton absence (Das geopferte Leben)

Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord, Paris, France

The project To fear in your absence is built equally on a fascinating text by writer Marie NDiaye, on powerful music by the young composer Hèctor Parra – whose composition commission is supported by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation – and on the ideas of stage director Georges Lavaudant – now building bridges between serious music, literature and theatre with the famous actress Astrid Bas. Moreover, this project will blend the geographic influences of each creator: Berlin/Germany, where Marie NDiaye is now living and where she wrote the text, Spain, from where Hèctor Parra comes and France, where the project will be realized. Parra explains the project in his own words:

“[…] I would like to explore other paths with this monodrama: for instance, textures and extreme and more dilated sound-draperies that would touch the emotion in a more ‘geological’, less ‘dermatological’ manner, a different musical respiration – removed from the tight temporality imposed by a sung voice and its intrinsic lyricism with all the tortuousness that it carries. There could also be moments of pure speech, without music, and calm, mysterious passages, troubling at times, with moments of great tenderness, but with blurred images that jumble together in the particular emotion of each instant.”
