Composition Commissions issued to David Fennessy and Atac Sezer

Münchner Kammerorchester, Germany

Supported on multiple occasions by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation, over the past few years Munich Chamber Orchestra (MCO) has issued numerous commissions to composers that were not only performed at premieres in Munich but also at guest appearances in many European music centers and festivals, meeting with an outstanding response on many occasions. In 2015 Munich Chamber Orchestra will be issuing two composition commissions with the support of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation: firstly to the composer David Fennessy for a 15-20 minute orchestral work for strings that is to be premiered in July under the baton of concert master Daniel Giglberger.

Fennessy’s compositions are performed internationally by acclaimed orchestras. The composition commission issued to David Fennessy is the first of a new series of commissions that the MCO is issuing for its string orchestral line-up without a conductor. Another commission will be going to the Turkish composer Atac Sezer who has lived in Munich for many years now and who received, amongst other things, the Musical Scholarship of the Regional Capital of Munich in 2008. Atac Sezer’s compositions thrive on the most varied influences like micro-tonality and electronic music, the combination of western and eastern instruments, new playing techniques and his affinity with different tonal systems. His new work for string orchestra will be premiered on October 15, 2015 under the baton of Alexander Liebreich.
