Connections: Perluigi Billone, Beat Furrer and the IRCAM in Boston

Trustees of Boston University, USA

It is not new for a chasm between Europe and the US to occasionally open up in art. With a newly created festival the Center for New Music at Boston University wishes to help build a bridge over this chasm in the Atlantic. The festival is held in two parts – in spring 2015 and 2016 – with key composers hosted in both phases and numerous events with broad public appeal planned. France’s IRCAM is one of the partners and Pierluigi Billone and Beat Furrer will be involved as guest composers. The Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation is supporting both parts of the festival.
While Billone is of the highest relevance for the current discourse in contemporary music he has until now been only little regarded in the US. This is the reason why he was selected to appear as a guest for the first phase of the festival in spring 2015. Under his guidance workshops, concerts and lectures for composition students and performers will be held.
A similar offering will also be provided in the second phase of the festival under the guidance of Beat Furrer. For April 2016 a musicology conference is planned which will also be open to the public.
