KLANGSPUREN Schwaz Tirol 2010.

International Ensemble Modern Academy (IEMA)

Festival Klangspuren, Schwaz Tyrol, Austria

The 17th edition of KLANGSPUREN in Schwaz Tyrol in 2010 is marked by several outstanding aspects of Russian contemporary music and the International Ensemble Modern Academy (IEMA) presents the extraordinary musical figure Heinz Holliger as composer-in-residence. From September 9th – 26th 2010 a fine line will be traced from Holliger’s work in New Music enabling numerous debut performances of aspiring young composers.
Since 2004 KLANGSPUREN Schwaz Tyrol has held the INTERNATIONAL ENSEMBLE MODERN ACADEMY (IEMA) in cooperation with Frankfurt’s Ensemble Modern. Members of the Ensemble Modern as lecturers and renowned composers (Helmut Lachenmann, György Kurtág, Wolfgang Rihm, Steve Reich) as composers-in-residence give this master class for musicians of the next generation a special intensity and present them with a real challenge.
With the support of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation IEMA 2010 will be held already for the 7th time now and it is, as ever, one of the most successful and important projects of the festival. The academy is primarily aimed at young musicians who have finished their training and who are aware of the special challenges presented by music of the 20th/21st century. Together with the lecturers from the Ensemble Modern, conductor Franck Ollu and this year’s composer-in-residence Heinz Holliger, pieces by composers like Holliger, Kurtàg, Benjamin, Ligeti, Carter and Grisey will be worked upon and performed in two concerts at the festival.
