"Buch Asche" – Composition Commission issued to Klaus Lang

Theater Bonn

This music theater production at Theater Bonn wishes to re-question the relationship between language, music and the theatrical space. Forming points of departure here are the components of a traditional opera performance (orchestra, choir, soloists, proscenium stage and orchestra’s pit), which are then reworked and developed further within the production. Serving as the basis in content terms here is the story of a poor Chinese peasant woman who unswervingly follows her confessed dream although threatened by the death sentence for doing so. Miraculously, all is well that ends well. Incidentally, the story is not musically illustrated or recounted but appears in "calligraphic" language. With the support of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation a composition commission has been issued to Klaus Lang with the libretto by Händl Klaus.
