"La Révolte des orgues" – Composition Commission issued to Jean Guillou

Orgelpunkt, Icking

Jean Guillou, France’s legendary organ virtuoso, will be celebrating his 80th birthday this year. To mark the occasion Orgelpunkt in collaboration with the Euro-Via-Festival, Bavarian Broadcasting and Munich’s Cultural Affairs Department will be presenting a unique organ event on June 9th 2010 at Munich’s Philharmonie im Gasteig: with the support of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation Guillou’s commissioned composition La Révolte des orgues for large organ, eight portable organs, percussion and conductor will be performed in this magnificent orchestration unique in western musical history.
Jean Guillou himself will play the main part on the philharmonic hall’s large Klais organ while the line-up for the other eight instruments will also be top class including the chief organists at Westminster Cathedral and Cologne Cathedral. Finely tuned to each other the portable organs have been provided on loan from various organ makers in Bavaria.
