Six Composition Commissions

ensemble ascolta

The Stuttgart ensemble ascolta was founded in 2003 by seven musicians with the aim of producing outstanding new musical scores for appropriate later development and performance. The ensemble’s unusual instrumentation focusing on brass and percussion instruments – trumpet, trombone, guitar, cello, piano and percussion – breaks new ground in the ensemble landscape. Over 50 new works have now been developed for ascolta and premieres from the likes of Beat Furrer, Isabel Mundry, Chaya Czernowin and Johannes Schöllhorn are planned. ascolta is a guest at many European New Music festivals such as Eclat (Stuttgart), at the festivals in Lucerne, Huddersfield and Witten, at Ultraschall Berlin, the Darmstadt Summer Courses for New Music, the Donaueschinger Musiktage, MärzMusik in Berlin and at Vienna’s Wien Modern. With the support of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation the ensemble has issued six composition commissions to Eduardo Moguillanski, Hans Thomalla, Pei-Yu Shi, Francesco Filidei, Brice Pauset and MingTsao in order to extend its repertoire.
