carte blanche-rouge

Schweizerische Gesellschaft für Neue Musik

In Switzerland’s German-speaking area all too little is known about the lively New Music scene in the country’s French-speaking region. The Swiss Society for New Music (Schweizerische Gesellschaft für Neue Musik – SGNM) and IGNM Basel have developed two projects with the goal of promoting cultural exchange between the two linguistic factions in Switzerland. In the concert entitled "carte blanche-rouge" featuring works by the young generation of Swiss composers, Geneva’s Ensemble Vortex meets Basel’s Mondrian Ensemble. Vortex sees itself as a collective of performers and composers and is primarily committed to the latest music from young composers. Since its founding the Mondrian Ensemble has played a key role on the Basel music scene. Exploration of new and the very latest music is as important to the Mondrian Ensemble as its intense focus on the classical-Romantic repertoire. The ensemble therefore views itself as a special ensemble for contemporary music but at the same time also a performer of innovative music of past centuries. At the end of their joint concert the two formations will play a commissioned piece by the SGNM issued to Gérard Zinsstag with the support of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation.
