Composers' Workshop

SIMILE, Steinway-Haus Berlin

The SIMILE im Steinway-Haus is a cultural institute that holds piano, violin and cello lessons. Concerts of classical music are also held here. The size of the very intimate concert hall with a maximum of 90 seats is especially suited to solo concerts and chamber music. SIMILE also hosts lectures on culture and science as well as readings and philosophical concerts. In the 2009/2010 concert season the SIMILE im Steinway-Haus is organizing a Composers’ Workshop in which key composers are to provide insights into their current modus operandi. The composers formulate their musical creed – presenting their musical materials and illustrating their compositional method. The Composers’ Workshop in 2010 focuses on the composers Adriana Hölszky, Helmut Lachenmann, Sidney Corbett, Manfred Trojahn, Detlev Glanert, Isabell Mundel, Jörn Arneke and Helmut Oehring and their current compositional creations. The discussion will be led by journalist Elisabeth Richter and the evenings will be complemented by musical contributions and recordings.
