BEGEHREN - Musiktheater von Beat Furrer

ECLAT Festival for New Music Stuttgart

The aim of the ECLAT Festival for New Music is to pick up on and present all innovative tendencies of contemporary music and correlate these to the great compositions of this century. Extra-musical, genre-spanning and music theater projects are a central focus of the festival. ECLAT aims to be a forum for the very young generation who should be given the opportunity to perform and be promoted.
With the support of the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation the motto at ECLAT 2010 is "Myth and the Present". Once again music theater is at the focus here: Beat Furrer's 2001 premiere concert performance of the work Begehren (Desire) – a radical attempt to lay bare the origins of opera – has gained a scenic addendum, danach (after), which brings the myth of Orpheus into the present. It is not far from this mythological topicality to Pier Paolo Pasolini, to whom an evening with the Neue Vocalsolisten is dedicated and not just musically. Connections are drawn between the premieres by Claus-Steffen Mahnkopf, Evdokija Danajloska, Saed Haddad and Johannes Schöllhorn for six voices and based on texts by Pasolini, and his skills in the areas of literature, painting and film.
