Conducting Composers – Composing Conductors

Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival

The three-year series Conducting Composers – Composing Conductors is being held as part of the international music academy of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival. The core idea here is to link up the creative, educational, performance and reception aspects of the musical experience. As part of the series composers also active as internationally acclaimed conductors will work with the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra to develop a commissioned composition issued by the festival itself and funded by the EvS Music Foundation. For Summer 2012 New York-based German composer and conductor Matthias Pintscher will be the Conducting Composer – Composing Conductor. He will write a new version of his work Celestial Object 1 for two trumpets and orchestra that was originally written for the Sharoun Ensemble. The results of his rehearsals with the festival orchestra will first be presented in several concerts in the main program of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival and then again at the Festival Young Euro Classic in Berlin. Furthermore, Matthias Pintscher will be heading a composition workshop for young composition students from all over the world.
