Summer Institute for Contemporary Performance Practice 2014

The Summer Institute for Contemporary Performance Practice of the New England Conservatory in Boston is an intensive performance seminar headed by Artistic Director Stephen Drury on music of the 20th and 21st centuries aimed at young pianists, composers, and instrumentalists. With the support of the EvS Music Foundation June 1st to 25th 2011 will see the holding of master classes, workshops including some on spectral music under composer Joshua Fineberg, public rehearsals and concerts. The composer-in-residence this year will be French composer Tristan Murail. His music will be prepared with him, analyzed and discussed with the young participating composers and then performed together by the Callithumpian Consort together with master class students on concert evenings held every night. A work by previous summer school participant Lee Weisert will also be premiered. The work of the new department for electronic music will be continued culminating in a marathon concert with sound installations in the conservatory building and surrounding area.
