Bluthaus – Composition Commission issued to Georg Friedrich Haas

Schwetzinger SWR Festspiele

Bluthaus (Blood House) is the theme of the opera written for the Schwetzinger SWR Festspiele 2011. In the libretto by Austrian Händel Klaus prospective buyers view a house in Lower Austria that is on the market for sale. They have it surveyed and collect information on its details – until the neighbors reveal the story of the property: a woman once stabbed her husband in this house and then killed herself. Even the owner of the house, the daughter of the deceased couple, cannot refrain from telling prospective buyers the story of the house and her family. Ultimately, they all tail off, no-one wants the Bluthaus and the daughter is left on her own. “We are wading in blood here,” says Klaus describing the foundations of the house and its history. The music to this somber plot was composed by Georg Friedrich Haas with the support of the EvS Music Foundation. Staged by Peter Weise.
