Composition Commission issued to Elliott Sharp

Studio Dan, Vienna

With the Elliott Sharp 60^th Birthday Project the 18-member Viennese ensemble Studio Dan honors a key composer and protagonist of the New York downtown scene. Sharp’s roots lie outside European classical music and his work is influenced by free, improvisational approaches often integrating forms like jazz, rock or punk music. At the focus of the project is a new work by the artist commissioned by Studio Dan Sharp with the support of EvS Music Foundation. The project pursues as close and intensive a collaboration between the composer, performers and improvisers as possible.
