Composition Commission issued to Gottfried Michael Koenig

Internationales Forum für Elektro-Akustische Musik und Medien, Braunschweig

October 2011 sees the composer Gottfried Michael Koenig celebrate his 85th birthday. To mark this anniversary Koenig’s hometown Braunschweig is devoting four days’ festivities to the life and works of the composer. A focal point in the celebrations is the premiere of a symphony concert for which a composition commission was issued to Koenig with the support of the EvS Music Foundation. This premiere will be supplemented by a program of chamber music concerts put together in close cooperation with the composer himself. Beyond this, workshops and lecture recitals as well as a symposium will be held at Hanover’s music and theater academy Hochschule für Musik und Theater. The project Koenig 2011 is intended not only to honor the composer’s life’s work and highlight his impact particularly on electro-acoustic music but also raise awareness amongst Braunschweig locals about the famous composer their town has brought forth.
