Composition Commission issued to Rebecca Saunders

Beethovenfest Bonn

The 2011 Beethovenfest whose motto is Zukunftsmusik. Beethoven, Liszt und das Neue in der Musik (Music of the Future. Beethoven, Liszt and New Aspects in Music) is to launch a long-term cooperation with the composer Rebecca Saunders. With the support of the EvS Music Foundation a commission was issued to Saunders for a solo concert. The combined skill of displaying virtuosity alongside musical expression as achieved by Beethoven in his solo concerts is the idea behind the Beethoven Festival composition commission. It was possible to enlist Saunder’s preferred soloist Carolin Widmann for the violin concert. The BBC Symphony Orchestra will be premiering the work under the baton of Sylvain Cambreling.
