Composition Commission issued to Siegfried Matthus

Theater Rudolstadt/Thüringer Symphoniker Saalfeld-Rudolstadt GmbH

The composition commission from the symphony orchestra Thüringer Symphoniker Saalfeld-Rudolstadt issued to Siegfried Matthus arises not least from the need to cultivate Thuringia’s musical traditions, made possible with the support of the EvS Music Foundation. Already in the past the orchestra premiered a number of works by Matthus. This composition commission reflects the desire to have a piece of work composed especially for the orchestral line-up and possibilities of the Thüringer Symphoniker. The result is a concert for trombone quartet and orchestra lasting 15 to 20 minutes. The composer himself announced: “It will be an earthily dramatic piece yet one that features musically beautiful ‘paradise-like sections’. The dramatic progression of the composition arises from the juxtaposition of drastic destruction and idyllic, paradisiacal beauty.”
