Concerto Grosso – Composition Commission issued to Pawel Szymanski

Polska Filharmonia Baltycka

This year will see the festival Solidarity of Arts being held in midsummer in Gdansk for the third time now. The name not only stands for development of new material of the highest standard but also for freedom in the arts. As part of the festival one evening will be entirely devoted to organ music including, with the support of the EvS Music Foundation, the premiere of a Concerto Grosso for organ by Pawel Szymanski. The composer himself coined the phrase “surconventionalism” to describe his style. His works have their roots in long past musical eras, especially in Baroque music. At the same time, however, these origins are reflected and deconstructed.
