Kagel 80 – Composition Commissions issued to Carola Bauckholt, Manos Tsangaris, Maria de Alvear and Chris Newman

On December 24^th 2011 elective Cologne resident Mauricio Kagel would have celebrated his 80^th birthday. This anniversary is to serve as an occasion to dedicate a concert evening to Kagel. The choice of works spanning four decades makes it possible to trace his aesthetic development. Furthermore, works from the composer’s estate are also to be premiered – a composer whose creativity was always significantly impacted by the scenic, the space and the action. The concert evening featuring Kagel’s work will be complemented, interfused and reflected by four homages in the form of commissions funded by the EvS Music Foundation issued to the composers Carola Bauckholt, Manos Tsangaris, Maria de Alvear and Chris Newman, all of whom were also Kagel’s pupils. The musicians will perform the works at Cologne’s musikFabrik venue.
