TIMESHIFT…or Time is a Bird…

In his novel Einstein’s Dreams astrophysicist Alan Lightman makes 30 sketches about time theories. These stories form the basis of TIMESHIFT. With the support of the EvS Music Foundation Niels Klein and Vassos Nicolaou – two composers boasting different styles and direction – are issued composition compositions. The composition path from jazz musician Niels Klein towards the more structurally minded Vassos Nicolaou is traced gradually though the tonal language of the likes of Søren Eichberg and Steingrimur Rohloff. Transposition of the novel dovetails text, music and the stage. The interaction of these individual aspects is understood in an intermedia rather than multimedia way: it is not the pure combination and supplementation that is in focus here but much more the sounding out of the gaps existing between the different disciplines.
