Benefit Concert for the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra

Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin

After the earthquake in Japan on March 11th 2011 and the ensuing catastrophes Toshio Hosokawa informed the fellows of the Institute of Advanced Study in Berlin of the dramatic situation affecting the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. This report prompted the idea of holding a benefit concert the proceeds of which would serve to preserve the Tokyo Orchestra. April 19th saw the holding of the concert with the support of the EvS Music Foundation. The program included works by Toshio Hosokawa, Helmut Lachenmann and Johann Sebastian Bach; Hanns Zischler performed the melodrama The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe set to music by Arthur Bergh.
