Final Concert featuring the Ensemble Modern

Villa Massimo, Rome, Italy

The stipends awarded by the Deutsche Akademie in Rome are aimed at young artists boasting extraordinary qualifications and great talent in the fields of fine arts, architecture, literature and music (composition). Each of the ten stipend recipients at Villa Massimo are around the age of 40 and are already enjoying initial public success. This stay in Rome is aimed at giving them inspiration and artistic orientation without the burden of financial constraints.
As in previous years, the EvS Music Foundation is funding the final concert of the stipend recipients’ year that is traditionally performed by the Ensemble Modern. The concert will be held in the largest hall of the Accademia Nazionale, the Sala Santa Cecilia. The concert performance will be arranged in such a way that the Ensemble will not play into the hall that remains empty and dark but instead towards the audience seated in the rows of choir pews. The concert program will feature new works by Villa Massimo’s 2011 music stipend recipients Sven-Ingo Koch and Marc Sabat developing over the course of their one-year stay, the work of one German classical composer as well as one work each by a key Italian and German contemporary composer. Nicola Sani will be in charge of artistic direction here.
