Arcus Temporum VIII – Art Festival of Pannonhalma 2011

2011 will see the holding of the now eighth Arcus Temporum festival at Pannonhalma Archabbey. The venue is an invitation to bridge the gap between past and present – which is why it is a major aim of the festival to link and put into context contemporary music with music by one of the old masters. Over the course of the festival a series of concerts will be premiered featuring works by a contemporary composer – where possible also assisting during the rehearsal stage – as well as works by a canonical one. When selecting a composer the aim here is to find an acclaimed contemporary who is still little known in Hungary – last year Beat Furrer was chosen. This year Helmut Oehring will be at the focus of the festival. His works will be juxtaposed by those of Beethoven’s. Supported by the EvS Music Foundation the festival also aims to offer a setting for international musicians and ensembles to come together and exchange ideas. For this reason a cooperation has existed since 2008 with Convergencie, a chamber music festival from Bratislava.
